Apple will release a new coding app designed to teach iPad owners how to use its Swift programming language.
The app, Swift Playgrounds, will be free to download when it hits the App Store this fall and promises to teach “serious code in a fun way.”
Users will be asked to solve puzzles to learn the basics and build more advanced creations, while the app will also come with a set of Apple-designed lessons that challenge players to guide characters through 3D worlds using real code.
Additional features come in the form of pre-made templates that show how advanced code is woven together, and the ability to share and edit projects using Mail, Messages, or Airdrop.
Those familiar with Xcode will also be able to import and export creations between the Mac toolkit and Playgrounds.
In December last year Apple launched a Swift developer community site, Swift.org, and released the Swift project on GitHub.
